Since I love bragging about the fact that I gave a TED talk once, probably if you know me for at least 25 seconds you already know I’ve given a TED talk.
Thanks to this wonderful experience I got to know so many people, including my fellow speakers and I especially became friends with one of them.
I wouldn’t say I became friends with him since that moment but it was actually because I met him again at other events that year.
One of them was one of the biggest tech conferences in the Netherlands (tnw)
My friend had been selected as one of the ‘Top Digital Talents under 25’ by Accenture so he got invited to the event for free and also to an exclusive “top under 25” party.
I was so happy for him but I didn’t know about that opportunity by then so I didn’t even apply. For that reason, I had to apply as a volunteer in order to be able to attend such a cool event.
I would have to work as a registration assistant at the entrance of the event during the whole morning and I finally finished my duty and I was free to have fun at the conference.
I met my friend there and we were having a blast. We even met Zoe Saldana (the actress from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar…)
Thanks to his help we ended up sneaking into that exclusive party.
This friend was the one who told me about the student council at my university (Delft University of Technology). He told me he was a leading candidate and a vice president of the party.
He also told me that they were looking for candidates to join the board of directors and told me I was the perfect fit.
I thought it would be a great idea, being able to give something back to my university by helping my fellow students. I really love my university so I would be really happy doing that.
For that reason I decided to accept that part-time position for some months.
It was a great decision. Not only were we able to help students but we also had lots of fun while doing so. I even got to script and shoot 3 short promotional movies about the same topic.
I made these movies with the help of the other members of the board, some students and even friends from outside university.
It was about how our party has helped everyone by making it mandatory for lecturers to give us examples of exams to practice with… Feel free to take a look at them:
We also organized many other great events, met cool people and did some cool stuff
As you could see, it was a great experience and I learnt a lot by joining this particular group of people at my university and I ended up becoming the Chair of the Board of Directors.
