Volunteering for the European Space Agency (ESA)

Every year, the European Space Agency (ESA) organizes several ‘Open Days’ one of them happens to be at ESA - ESTEC, The European Space Research and Technology Centre is the European Space Agency's main technology development and test centre for spacecraft and space technology. It is situated in Noordwijk, South Holland, in the western Netherlands, really close from where I live.

Every year, people from all over the world attend this unique opportunity. In fact, in 2018  there was an attendance of 12000 people.

This makes so much sense because who wouldn’t like to get to know ESA and visit it.

Ever since you were a young kid studying physics in highschool, you wonder how things work over there.

That was the case for me too, so I figured I could go there during the ‘Open Day’ and visit it.

I decided to take a step further. I asked them for a press pass to attend this event as a press specialist and cover it on my website. They agreed.

You can probably imagine how happy I was… I represented an important medium as a press member responsible at ESA during the European Space Agency open day where I improved my communication skills by covering everything that was happening in this global event with an attendance of 12000 people.

The event was huge, I met famous astronauts, scientists and even actors… I remember this was happening during the promotional tour of the movie “First Man” about Armstrong so several people from that movie were there too.

I attended lectures, took notes for my press report, discovered remote interesting places in such an impressive facility…

I’d recommend going if you ever have the chance.
